September’s New Beginnings

Most people think the year begins on January first.  As a former elementary school teacher I can tell you that is incorrect.  My year always started in September when the school year began.  New pencils, new books, new plans for the year.  One of the beautiful things about school is there is an alpha and an omega.  In September new students will enter the classroom and all will be well for the year to come.   Hope springs eternal.

Now that I am in this new phase of my life (retired elementary school teacher), and a new chapter in the form of creating and teaching art, I find September is still the start of my year.  Change is in the air as we shift from summer to autumn. The colors of the world change from vibrant green to softer shades of brown, red, and orange.  I find that my painting changes in the fall.  I choose different colors and different subjects.

All the months are crude experiments, out of which the perfect September is made.

September is a great month for fresh starts!  The transition from summer to fall can feel like a new chapter, whether you're diving back into school, returning from vacation, or just feeling inspired to set new goals. Some people embrace it as a time to pick up new hobbies, start a new project, or even just reset their routines.

This "September New Year" can be a great time to reflect on what you want to achieve and make a plan. Whether it's focusing on personal development, starting a new project, or just making small changes to improve your daily life, the transition into fall offers a natural pause for recalibration and growth. What’s on your mind for this September?

Artfully,

Holli
